Today, Albright is seeking a Vice President of Enrollment Management who will join President Fetrow and a strong leadership team in building upon the foundational strengths of Albright and lead the college to a bold and vibrant future. This is an opportunity for a seasoned enrollment manager who is well aware of today’s challenges for small, private colleges and has both the imagination and grounding in best enrollment practices to shape Albright’s future.
Located in Berks County, Albright College is in Reading, PA, both an industrial city and agricultural community located about 70 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The beautiful 118-acre campus is peppered with ample circles of red Adirondack chairs facing each other, reminding visitors that this is a place that values connections among and between community members. Grounded in the liberal arts, Albright offers bachelor’s degrees in 19 divisions, and a 4+1 program in education that includes the bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and teacher certification. The School of Professional Studies provides adult learners an accelerated undergraduate degree program in seven areas of study, two certificate programs, and a master’s degree program.
The history of Albright dates back to 1856 when it began as Union Seminary and following a series of mergers through the 19th century, Albright College emerged in 1898 as a college and a rigorous liberal arts curriculum with a clear interdisciplinary focus. Albright’s hallmarks are connecting fields of learning, collaborative teaching and learning, and a flexible curriculum that allows students to create an individualized education. Over 40% of Albright students follow or create a program of study that combines two or three disciplines.
Albright College has been named one of the most ethnically and economically diverse colleges in the country, ranking 33rd out of 208 national liberal arts colleges by Princeton Review. It is consistently ranked as one of the “Best Northeastern Schools” by the same publication.
A private college enrolling close to 2,000 undergraduate students, Albright seeks an ambitious Vice President of Enrollment Management who will oversee the departments of Admissions and Financial Aid and who will engage with campus collaborators at this transformative moment in Albright’s history. Partnering with President Fetrow, they will join the President’s Cabinet in their goal to increase the number of students at Albright as well as raise net tuition revenue in a way consistent with the College’s tradition of innovation and creativity and always putting student success at the center of the mission. The new Vice President will have the full support of the Board of Trustees and the President in achieving these goals.
A significant opportunity for the new Vice President is to engage in work surrounding realistic pricing. Over the last 18 months, President Fetrow has led an in-depth study and planning process, which is ongoing. One recommendation which was quickly implemented will reduce tuition by 45% beginning in the 2019-20 academic year. This recommendation aligns with the College’s commitment to student success. In her announcement to the community, President Fetrow said, “So the real value of lowering tuition today will be twofold: significantly smaller actual-dollar tuition increases in the future and our commitment to accessibility that will expand with a new scholarship fundraising initiative for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors” The Vice President for Enrollment Management will lead efforts to effectively implement this new pricing strategy.
Responsibilities and Duties
The new Vice President of Enrollment Management will:
- Lead, inspire, supervise, hire and evaluate the members of the Admissions and Financial Aid teams. Create a collaborative work environment and empower the division to exceed expectations. Provide opportunities for professional development.
- Develop and execute a strategic enrollment plan aligned with the College’s goals to increase enrollment and net revenue.
- Manage enrollment headcounts, net revenue, and discount rate targets. Provide oversight for admissions and financial aid operations, assuring compliance with external agencies, institutional policies and budget.
- Lead members of their own division and collaborate effectively with colleagues in Digital Strategies and Infrastructure to continue to enhance and upgrade the enrollment data infrastructure and to effectively implement and utilize state-of-the-art technologies for engaging potential students.
- Create and sustain a culture of shared responsibility for enrollment management across campus by building strong interdepartmental relationships and effective, open communication.
- Communicate routinely, transparently and proactively with the President and the cabinet, staff and colleagues on current trends, enrollment numbers, providing updates and impacts throughout the enrollment cycle.
- Introduce forward-thinking strategies and innovations to the work of the enrollment management team with the goal of advancing Albright College.
- Collaborate meaningfully and effectively with faculty; encourage and support their engagement with recruitment while respecting the demands on their time and talent.
- Engage meaningfully with colleagues in the Communication and Academic Affairs Divisions to develop and implement marketing campaigns that effectively communicate the Albright student experience and outcomes.
- Support, partner with and foster the relationship with athletics (NCAA Division III) as an important extension of the recruitment effort.
Qualifications and Characteristics
The successful candidate for Vice President of Enrollment Management will have significant and progressive experience in higher education admissions and financial aid with more than 10 years of relevant experience. A seasoned professional, they will have a sound understanding of current demographics and enrollment trends and will be grounded in enrollment best practices. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. Further, it is expected the new Vice President will be ambitious and undaunted by the challenges facing small, yet impactful, colleges like Albright. They will develop innovative ideas and approaches to recruiting and retaining students. Additionally, Albright’s new Vice President of Enrollment Management will have the following qualities:
- Proven skills as both a coach and mentor for the staff; outstanding leadership skills and a collaborator across the campus.
- A belief in and appreciation for the liberal arts as the best path for future success.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. A compelling spokesperson for Albright and its mission.
- Experienced in developing an effective strategic enrollment plan that includes recruitment with the goal of retaining students.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to integrate with the community easily.
- Knowledge of enrollment and financial aid data systems, technology and research.
- Will be technologically astute and able to assure that technology supports the relational and strategic work of the department efficiently and effectively.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion with a deep understanding of learning and working in a diverse community.
- An understanding of and appreciation for Division III college athletics building upon the strengths of a student body that boasts a 30% participation rate among its students.
- Facile with data and data analytics for decision-making, predictive modeling and innovation.
- Experience in budget management.

Academics at Albright
The College’s rigorous liberal arts curriculum has an interdisciplinary focus. Albright’s hallmarks are connecting fields of learning, collaborative teaching and learning, and a flexible curriculum that allows students to create an individualized education. Over 40% of Albright students follow or create programs of study that combine two or three fields of learning. The College offers over 40 majors to their traditional undergraduate students, from Biology and Business to Psychology, the Social Sciences, and the Visual and Performing Arts, including Fashion Design and Game and Simulation Development.
The School of Professional Studies offers adult students accelerated degree programs that include bachelor’s degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Crime and Justice, Computer and Information Systems, Organizational Behavior/Applied Psychology and Information Systems and Management, in addition to two certificate programs and a master’s degree program.
Albright College is strongly committed to the philosophy of a general studies program that insures both breadth of the educational experience and mastery of skills and knowledge essential to all well-educated individuals. Skills developed in the general education program are those that are most desirable to CEOs and employers.
Albright’s General Education program has three overarching goals for students:
- Knowing the World | Students will learn about different disciplines, their objects of study, and their approaches to knowledge, thereby establishing a broad foundation upon which to build understanding and engagement.
- Engaging the World | Students will understand other groups—broadly defined—as well as the differences within and among them. They will learn different perspectives and contexts that shape the natural and human worlds and recognize the importance of social and ethical engagement in a local and global context.
- Understanding the World | Students will learn to think critically, communicate effectively, and solve problems creatively by acquiring intellectual, practical and integrative skills. They will examine the different questions and methods of the arts, humanities, and natural and social sciences. Students will learn to interpret, synthesize and adapt knowledge and skills to different situations, thus preparing themselves for an informed engagement with the world.
Albright offers an Honors Program for qualified students and the Alpha Program, for students who are unsure of their academic major and would like additional resources to navigate the pathway to declaring a major. Additionally, a post-baccalaureate premedical certification program is available. Affirming the value of learning outside the classroom, Albright also offers the Experiential Learning and Career Development Center that assists students in exploring majors, careers, and experiential learning opportunities that enhance Albright’s core learning goal of “engaging the world.”
Student Life and Athletics at Albright
Albright’s campus is a residential one that encourages students “to study, work and socialize in a thriving, inclusive and equitable community.” As Albright implements its new four-year residency requirement, about 10% of students live off campus, mostly as true commuters. Albright’s vibrant student life is supported through the Office of Student and Campus Life. Student organizations are supported through the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership that provides resources and support for student activities, clubs and organizations, campus events and leadership opportunities.
Albright College was recently awarded over $2.2 million in a Title III grant to be used over the next five years to substantially change the approach to learning and student success in the first year of higher education. The program is designed to help students develop the skills and confidence needed to achieve academic success and integrates student learning with personal and career goals, supporting both retention and improved graduation rates.
The Albright Lions compete in NCAA Division III athletics as a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference. The College sponsors 23 teams, 11 for men and 12 for women, that include baseball, basketball, cross country, cheerleading, football, field hockey, golf, and lacrosse. The College’s first co-ed team, eSports, completed its first season this year. Like all of Albright, the athletic department is dedicated to student success and the integration of a full educational experience across campus.

Reading is located halfway between Philadelphia, the state’s most populous city, and Harrisburg, the state capitol and was part of the major transportation route for coal being mined in western Pennsylvania and then transported to the Port of Philadelphia on the Reading Railroad. Reading’s population is approximately 88,000 and has become a destination for cycling enthusiasts thanks to 125 trails within five preserves in and around the city.
Home to Albright College, three other institutions of higher learning also share the city: Alvernia College, Penn State Berks Campus, and Reading Area Community College. Reading was one of the first localities where outlet shopping became a tourist industry. Reading is also home to the Fightin’ Phils, the minor league affiliate to the Philadelphia Phillies. Cultural institutions in Reading include the Reading Symphony Orchestra, the Reading Choral Society, Berks Chamber Choir, the GoggleWorks Art Gallery, the Reading Public Museum and the Historical Society of Berks County.
Surrounded by the Schuylkill River and the verdant hills of Pennsylvania, Reading is transitioning from its factory and transportation roots, boasts of affordable housing costs, and will always be known for its many bakeries, thus giving Reading the nickname “Pretzel City.”
