RE: Appointment of Director of Admission
I am pleased to announce that Grace Cheng has accepted the position of Director of Admission, effective August 11, 2015. Grace is currently the Associate Director of Admissions for Staff Development in the Harvard College Admissions and Aid Office. Grace has worked as a senior member of Harvard’s undergraduate admissions team since 2002, taking a three-year professional development leave to serve as a founding member of the Taipei American School’s College Counseling Office.
At Harvard, Grace has been responsible for training and mentoring staff while also helping to manage day-to-day operations for an admission office that receives 37,000 applications per year. Grace’s other responsibilities have included chairing admission subcommittees and serving as a member of the steering committee to implement the office’s first online reading system and CRM. Grace is a visible leader in national professional organizations for college admission, including serving as a regional representative for the New England Regional Council of the College Board and a faculty member of the Harvard Summer Institute on College Admission.
Grace graduated from Harvard College cum laude with a degree in applied mathematics and began her professional career as a top performer in the professional services network Price Waterhouse Coopers before transitioning to a career in higher education. She is a certified public accountant, holds a master of science degree in accounting, and a master of business administration. She is currently completing an Ed.D in higher education administration at Northeastern University. Outside of work, Grace is an accomplished chef, having auditioned, and been selected as a contestant, for the television show, Master Chef. Those who met Grace during the search process were impressed with her excellent college counseling skills and rapport with students, her extensive experience mentoring and developing staff, her tremendous quantitative analysis skills, and her wonderful professional reputation.
I would like to thank the members of the search committee: Veronica Brandstrader (LTS); Scott Juedes-Wallace (SFS); Phillip Levine (Economics), Glenn Stark (Physics) and Lori Tenser (Class Deans’ Office) for their investment in the search process and their thoughtful consideration of candidates which led to an outstanding outcome.
